We all know that fall is now almost better known as “Pumpkin Spice Latte” season thanks to Starbucks and they’re unbeatable marketing strategies and tasty liquid treats. But did you know how much sugar is in a PSL? Would you believe it has more sugar in it than an Oh Henry bar? 48 grams to be exact (and that’s WITHOUT the whipped cream)! That’s 12 (T-W-E-L-V-E) Teaspoons!!!! Would you put 12 teaspoons of sugar in your coffee? Would you put 12 teaspoons of sugar into anything other than maybe a baked goods recipe?
Fear not! If you’re still craving some pumpkin spice goodness, here is a quick and easy smoothie recipe that I love to have to boost my energy, nourish my body and give me all the fall feels!
1/2 can plain pumpkin purée
1 cup almond milk
1 tbsp maple syrup
1/4 tsp each cinnamon, cardamom & cloves
1 scoop protein powder (optional)
Handful of ice cubes
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Top with pomegranate arils, cacao nibs or pumpkin seeds and enjoy!
